The Wyndham Championship is a golf tournament sponsored by a company that prides itself on hospitality, so naturally vendors are putting their best foot forward.
Dine & Cook is attending this year's Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, NC, not for the golf but for the food and drink. We are here for a hands on look at an often overlooked but very important aspect of a golf tournament-- the dining options. On top of the typical concessions you would expect at a major sporting event, championship organizers have teamed up with several local companies to provide spectators a taste of local fare.
There are several unique dining options at the Wyndham and a popular one with spectators is always the adult beverage service. Spectators can imbibe on "standard" beer options while at the Championship: Budweiser, Bud Light, Bud Light with Lime and Michelob Ultra-- but there really isn't any need to do so with local craft brew flowing freely from the tap.
Local brewer Natty Greene's is available at several locations on the course, offering their Buckshot Amber and Guilford Golden to thirsty spectators. Beer here doesn't come at ballpark prices either, $4 and $5 respectively. Wine lovers can choose from an assortment of Berringer varietals, Berringer is the official wine sponsor of the PGA. Organizers are also experimenting this year with a brand new cocktail service provided by Tito's Handmade Vodka.
As always, with beer readily available there has to be pizza close by. Local pizza chain Hungry Howie's has set up shop near the fifth tee and on top of their regular crust pies, they are also baking both garlic herb and butter crust pizzas. Spectators can pick up to seven toppings on a large, the pizzas are then baked on site. For lunch, a large will only set you back $10, a medium $5. Hungry Howie's is taking the hospitality theme a step further; the chain is delivering pizza to both spectators and homes located within the Sedgefield Country Club, home of the Wyndham Championship. The only thing a hungry fa has to do is call them and meet the delivery person near a landmark on the course.
There are of course more refined dining options besides beer and pizza at the Wyndham. Greensboro caterer Pepper Moon has set up shop between the first and 18th holes and are cooking up an assortment of options. An extensive menu is also available at the Country Club's main building-- the building however is closed to the general public.
