A late summer downpour did little to stop Brooklyn’s beer enthusiasts from venturing outdoors doors last week in celebration of Brooklyn Brewery’s newest reserve, Detonation Ale. The launch party took place at The Boathouse of Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, with the brewery’s famed brewmaster Garrett Oliver himself serving at the tap.
Taking their BLAST! IPA up a notch, Detonation Ale features seven –yes seven – different kinds of hops resulting in an entirely drinkable 9.2% ABV brew that seemingly parted the clouds and allowed a damp yet happy crowd to mingle beneath a hot August sky. As described by the brewery, Detonation is “a copper-colored pale ale with British malt character, American hop ebullience, Brooklyn attitude and disturbing drinkability. British caramel malts lend richness and depth, while a blend of American hops give the beer a minerally backbone and explosive aromatics.”
Guests enjoyed pairings of equally rich and explosive flavors, including bacon infused caramel corn from Ovenly, meatstuffs from The Meathook and dumplings from The Dump School. A Brooklyn fête, indeed. As a brewmaster’s reserve, Detonation Ale will only be on draft for the next couple of months, so get it while you can.
All ticket proceeds benefited The Prospect Park Alliance.
