Sugar cane and sugar beet growers have upped the ante in their battle against the Corn Refiners Association-- the trade group that represents the high fructose corn syrup industry.
The farmers have amended their lawsuit against the CRA, alleging that the group is behind a conspiracy "designed to deceive the public about high fructose corn syrup."

PETA asks Turkey Texas to change its name
PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is asking the mayor of Turkey, Texas, to change the name of his town to "Tofurky" in time for Thanksgiving.
The organization is offering to provide the entire town with a full-course vegan holiday feast if the name change goes through.
NY Times dining editor upped to restaurant critic
There's a new person at the helm of the New York Times' prestigious restaurant review beat.
Late Tuesday afternoon the Times announced that their dining editor Pete Wells was taking over the position from Sam Sifton. Wells joined the paper in October 2006, his previous post was the articles editor at Details Magazine. He also very briefly held the post of interim restaurant critic in 2009 between Frank Bruni and Sifton. Sifton, stepped down in September after two years at the position to become the paper's national editor.
Starbucks raises prices in certain markets

Starbucks Tuesday raised prices on some drinks in several major markets including Southern California (Los Angeles), the Pacific Northwest (Washington and Oregon), the Midwest (Chicago) and Hawaii.
Celebrities team up with Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri for new show
Assorted celebrities are teaming up with Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri in a new six-episode series on the Food Network that ends with a Zagat rating competition.
Titled "Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-off" the two Food Network stars will coach eight celebrities to cook. Divided into "Team Guy" and "Team Rachael" each episode will feature food related contests. In the end, the last contestant standing will be crowned king or queen of the "Celebrity Cook-Off" and wins $50,000 for the charity they are playing to support.
Restaurants are riding high on the hog, cashing in on lower prices
If you think you’re seeing pork everywhere these days, the truth is you are. Restaurants have increased the number of pork dishes they’re offering due to the rising cost of other protein options.
According to foodservice consultants Technomic, pork use is up 7 percent nationally. Pork isn’t being relegated to the main course either. The group found that pork has crept its way into appetizers, mains and side dishes.
Retired military leaders demand Congress close "pizza loophole"
Retired high-ranking US military officers are fighting a new battle-- childhood obesity.
More than 100 retired generals and admirals urged Congress Monday to overhaul the public school lunch program. The catalyst, a Defense Department report that estimates 1 in 4 young adults are too overweight to join the military. The report also found that obesity was the leading medical disqualification for military service in the United States.
